"The spread of HIV / AIDS in Indonesia is the highest of men who are not loyal and become customers of female sex workers (FSW)," Health Minister (Menkes) Nafsiah Mboi, in Batam, Tuesday.
In Indonesia there are about 230,000 female sex workers spread across Indonesia, especially areas that there are many ports and borders.
"In every port there must be a red-light district. Many men from the area tersebutlah WPS customers so that high numbers," he said.
He said the number of subscribers reached 6.7 million WPS and about 75,000 of them also with injecting drug use resulted in approximately 4.9 million women who marry them are particularly at risk of contracting HIV / AIDS.
"In Indonesia, there are 4.9 million women who married a man who became a WPS customers. So even if the wife is not never had a man, they are also particularly at risk of contracting HIV / AIDS," said Nafsiah.
Cases of pregnant women who contracted HIV / AIDS from her husband, said Minister of Health, are likely to continue to increase from year to year. Children born of parents with HIV / AIDS are also infected with the deadly disease.
