(ANTARA News) - The Ministry of Health recorded until the end of 2012
the number of men in Indonesia who became clients of female sex workers
reached 6.7 million and became the most high-risk spreading the disease
HIV / AIDS.
"The
spread of HIV / AIDS in Indonesia is the highest of men who are not
loyal and become customers of female sex workers (FSW)," Health Minister
(Menkes) Nafsiah Mboi, in Batam, Tuesday.
In
Indonesia there are about 230,000 female sex workers spread across
Indonesia, especially areas that there are many ports and borders.
"In
every port there must be a red-light district. Many men from the area
tersebutlah WPS customers so that high numbers," he said.
He
said the number of subscribers reached 6.7 million WPS and about 75,000
of them also with injecting drug use resulted in approximately 4.9
million women who marry them are particularly at risk of contracting HIV
/ AIDS.
"In
Indonesia, there are 4.9 million women who married a man who became a
WPS customers. So even if the wife is not never had a man, they are also
particularly at risk of contracting HIV / AIDS," said Nafsiah.
Cases
of pregnant women who contracted HIV / AIDS from her husband, said
Minister of Health, are likely to continue to increase from year to
year. Children born of parents with HIV / AIDS are also infected with the deadly disease.
Director
General of Disease Control and Environmental Health of the Ministry of
Health, Tjandra Yoga Aditama, referring HIV-AIDS Progress Report Third
Quarter 2012 which was sent to the Minister of Health, said that the
highest percentage of HIV cases reported in the 25-49 year age group as
much as 73.7 percent. Then followed by the age group 20-24 years and 15 per cent in the age group above 50 years as much as 4.5 percent.
According
to Tjandra, the highest percentage of HIV risk factors for unsafe sex
in heterosexual as much as 50.8 percent, the use of non-sterile syringes
to IDUs as much as 9.4 percent, and MSM (Men Sex Men) as much as 7
percent.
