BKKBN National Coordination Meeting titles population control

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Population and Family Planning (BKKBN) held a coordination meeting of national partnership with the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) and the Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) for successful population control program.

"Coordination Meeting was held to strengthen partnerships so that there is synergy in the face of quite complex issues related to the current demographic situation," said Acting. BKKBN head Sudibyo Alimoeso in Jakarta on Friday.

Sudibyo explained, partnership National Coordination Meeting was opened by the Minister of Health Nafsiah Mboi is a follow up of a national working meeting (Rakernas) program of national population and family planning held in Jakarta on January 30, 2013.

"National Workshop resulted in the formulation of policies and operational strategies in 2013, and the translation of its operation will be discussed at the Coordination Meeting," he said.

He added that Indonesia still faces considerable problems associated complex demographic situation both in terms of quality and quantity.

"In terms of quality, generally measured variables are education, health and economy. Specifically I highlight from the health sector there seems to be a consistent progress especially infant mortality rate (IMR) and maternal mortality rate (MMR)," he said.

Role of midwives, according to him, is also very significant in reducing the MMR.

"In addition, family planning education and counseling by doctors and midwives will be significant in the community to raise awareness for family planning in rural communities generally have more confidence to physicians or other health professionals," he said.
