Dementia can be prevented by training the brain

Medan (ANTARA News) - Senility today is not only suffered by those who are elderly, but also young age, but to prevent it can be done by training the brain from an early age.

Nerve Specialist Hospital Martha Friska Medan in Medan Friday Budi Santoso said that in principle the older one will be even greater risk of dementia, but if the brain is trained from an early age, senility or dementia it can be overcome.

"Exercising the brain by reading or doing a different job every day can prevent the dementia. Bottom line, use the brain every day, if not senile, then use the brain as well as possible," he said

He said that every person has the potential to dementia even some people have a higher chance than others, for that, the best one can do is try to reduce the risk factors.

"In Indonesia, people age 65 years and over, about 15 percent suffer from dementia and people with dementia at the age of 95 years about 50 per cent. This number may actually be reduced by training the brain from an early age," he said.

According to him, dementia is not the name of a specific disease, but a term to describe a group of symptoms that may be caused by abnormalities in the brain.

Someone who is experiencing dementia, will decline in intellectual function that socialization activities will be affected. People with dementia will also lose the ability to solve problems and maintain emotional.
"Some of the diseases that cause dementia are Alzheimer's, vascular dementia, and others. Dementia commonly suffered the elderly, but the disease is not part of the normal aging process," he said. (JRD / KWR)
